Who qualifies for a P-1 visa?
Athletes who compete at an internationally recognized level and members of entertainment groups with a sustained, international reputation for at least one year.
Does the entire entertainment group need to apply together?
Yes. The group itself must have the international reputation, though individual members apply on
behalf of the group.
Can an individual entertainer apply for a P-1?
Generally no. Individual performers typically apply under the O-1 visa. The P-1 is designed for
groups.
How long is the P-1 visa valid?
Athletes may receive up to five years, with extensions up to ten years. Entertainment groups are
generally granted up to one year at a time.
Can my family come with me?
Yes. Eligible dependents may apply for P-4 status to accompany you.
