Naturalization

Naturalization From Permanent Resident to U.S. Citizen: The Final Step in Your American Journey

You have built your life in America. Now let’s make it official.

Naturalization is one of the most meaningful milestones in the immigration journey, the moment
a lawful permanent resident becomes a U.S. citizen. With citizenship comes the right to vote, the
ability to sponsor a broader range of family members, the security of a U.S. passport, and
protection from deportation. If you have met the residency, physical presence, and good moral
character requirements, this final step is within reach.

At NeoVita Law Group, we guide permanent residents through the naturalization application
process carefully and completely, ensuring your application accurately reflects your history, your

time in the U.S., and your eligibility. We prepare you for the civics and English interview so you
can walk in with confidence.

Why Choose NeoVita:

Frequently Asked Questions:

How long must I be a green card holder before applying for naturalization?

Generally five years, or three years if you obtained your green card through marriage to a U.S. citizen and have been living in marital union with them.

What is the physical presence requirement?

You must have been physically present in the U.S. for at least 30 months out of the five years before filing, or 18 months out of three years for the marriage-based exception.

What happens if I traveled outside the U.S. frequently?

Extended trips abroad can interrupt your continuous residence. Trips of six months to a year may create a presumption of broken continuity. We can evaluate your travel history during a consultation.

Is there an English requirement?

Yes. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and speak basic English, with limited
exceptions for elderly or long-term permanent residents.

What is the civics test?

Applicants must correctly answer at least 6 of 10 questions drawn from 100 civics topics covering U.S. history and government.
